PLAYSTATION 4 PRO / SLIM - EASY FUTURE DISSASEMBLY - REPLACE FAN, DISC DRIVE, LED PCB AND MIDDLE PART.

IDEA:
Do this so that if in the future you need to replace the fan or disc drive you don't need to fully disassemble the PS4 Pro (all models) and PS4 Slim (20xx models ONLY) meaning the motherboard, top and bottom chassis parts will remain together. Therefore you will not need to re-paste the APU or install new thermal pads onto the RAM or APU VRM chips.

PLAYSTATION 4 PRO

Preparation:
With the PS4 Pro fully disassembled.
  1. Install all four screws that secure the fan into the main plastic housing. Circled in GREEN.
  2. Enlarge the two holes in the metal heatsink side chassis part that secure the chassis to the fan and plastic housing. Enlarge them using a drill by say using a 1mm larger drill at a time till you get to either 5 or 6mm and there is clearance around the fan screw heads. Circled in RED.
  3. Apply some metal paint to the drill hole edges to prevent rusting.
  4. Then continue to reassemble the PS4 Pro as you normally would.

FUTURE DISASEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY

Disassembly:

Next time when you need to replace the fan or disc drive disassemble the PS4 Pro as normal except after removing the power supply and the hard drive:
  1. Unplug all of the ribbon and Wi-Fi cables connected to the motherboard.
  2. Remove the large torque screws holding the metal chassis parts and motherboard to the main plastic housing. Don't remove the small Phillips head screws that secure the two metal chassis parts to the the motherboard.
  3. Hold the motherboard in place turn the PS4 so that it is sitting in the horizontal orientation.
  4. While lifting the rear of the PS4 main housing upward pull on the highlighted area in the following picture gently away from the PS4 to release the rear Optical port from it's hole.
  5. The PS4 motherboard and metal chassis will now be separated from the rest of the ps4.
Rear port pull-on area in.

Reassembly:
  1. Lay the PS4 Pro upside down.
  2. Align the motherboard front with the plastic locating lug on the main housing and position the rear ports resting on the plastic housing port surrounds above their respected holes.
  3. Now put your finger between the AUX port and the optical port plastic and pull away from the PS4 to allow the motherboard to clear the plastic around the Optical port and fall into place.

EASILY CHANGABLE ON BUTTON / EJECT BUTTON / LED BOARD.

Do this so that if in the future you need to replace the On button, eject button or LED pcb you don't need to fully disassemble the PS4 Pro meaning the motherboard, top and bottom chassis parts will remain together.

Preparation:

With all of the major internals removed from the plastic housing take note of the location of the screws that secure the PS4 middle sandwich part of the the housing that covers the power/eject buttons and LED pcb. Circled in RED, BLUE and YELLOW.

  1. Remove all 5 circled screws.
  2. Pull the middle part of the housing sandwich on the fan area side toward the front of the PS4 with some gentle outward force away from the PS4. It should come away from the PS4. Watch the power button side of the to make sure the the plastic does not catch on the power button / led light bar protruding plastic.
  3. Take the middle part of the housing and where the YELLOW screws went through with a 3mm drill, drill down through that hole to put a matching 3mm hole in the tab on the other sides of the middle sandwich part.
  4. Now put the middle part back into the PS4 in the reverse order and re-installed only with the RED screw and YELLOW screws. The YELLOW screws you secure from the other side inside of the power supply bay. Do not install the BLUE circled screws as access to them will be blocked by the PS4 motherboard and chassis.

REMOVAL:

To remove the centre plastic part you only need to remove the power supply, the two YELLOW screws and the single RED screw to be able to replace the On/Off/Eject buttons or the LED pcb.

PLAYSTATION 4 SLIM - 20xx MODELS ONLY

Preparation:
With the PS4 Slim fully disassembled.
  1. Install all four screws that secure the fan into the main plastic housing. Circled in GREEN
  2. Enlarge the two holes in the metal heatsink side chassis part that secures the chassis to the fan and plastic housing. Enlarge them using a drill by say using a 1mm larger drill at a time till you get to either 5mm or 6mm and there is clearance around the fan screw heads. Circled in RED.
  3. Partially screw the two metal chassis parts together outside if the PS4 plastic housing.
  4. With a 3mm drill, drill down though the two holes in the heatsink side chassis part HDD bay area through into the RAM chassis part. Circled in YELLOW.
  5. Clean up any burs on the drill holes.
  6. Apply some metal paint to the drilled hole edges to prevent rusting.
  7. Continue to reassemble the PS4 as you normally would BUT DO NOT re-install the screws circled in BLUE. The 2 screws in the HDD bay area put them into their place then use a thin screw driver to screw them in through the holes we drilled earlier. Circled in YELLOW.

FUTURE DISASEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY

Disassembly:

Next time when you need to replace the fan or disc drive disassemble the PS4 Slim as normal except after removing the power supply and the hard drive:
  1. Unplug all of the ribbon and Wi-Fi cables connected to the motherboard.
  2. Remove silver Phillips head screws holding the metal chassis parts and motherboard to the main plastic housing. Including the 2 in the HDD Bay area using the Holes we drilled previously. Don't remove the small black Phillips head screws that secure the two metal chassis parts to the the motherboard. There are also 4 small silver screws that don't need to be removed, two on the HDD bay and another two near the rear ports on the RAM chassis.
  3. The PS4 motherboard and metal chassis will now be separated from the rest of the ps4.
